Are you catching your breath since Thanksgiving and before Christmas gets in full swing? I still have not. We have gone right from Thanksgiving to trying to get part of our kitchen remodeled before we have Christmas dinner at our house.
I have had good intentions and lots of ideas going around in my head but until I had a day off on Friday I had not been able to get in the kitchen and get some new recipe ideas done for the blog.
I have seen these Chocolate Pretzel Christmas Tree's floating around facebook and decided to give them a try. Oh boy they are harder to do then they looked. I had a hard time getting the tree to come to a point at the top so as you can see some of mine look a little weird. Cally says they are unique just like no two trees are the same in the Christmas Tree Field.
I had extra trees left over and you can also eat them just like they are as chocolate covered pretzels. I think I will make more for Christmas as they were so much easier to do then dipping pretzels!
To make the Tree cupcake toppers, I laid stick pretzels on wax paper. I melted my chocolate and placed it into a ziplock bag. Snip off the corner of the ziplock bag and then starting at the bottom of the pretzel make zigzags up the pretzel ending with a point on the top of the pretzel. Immediately sprinkle with desired decorations. I used tiny ball sprinkles and stars on mine but your options are endless.
You can use any flavor cupcakes, box mix or homemade. I was in a hurry so I also used can icing on these cupcakes pictured. By dipping the tops of my iced cupcakes in tiny white ball sprinkles you can not tell the icing is not homemade. I also did a rough icing on these cupcakes, meaning that I let the icing fall down the sides of the cupcakes, this way it appears as if the cupcakes have little snow drifts falling off the sides. Otherwise I was afraid they would look like a Hostess Snowball with a tree on top, lol
Chocolate Pretzel Christmas Tree Cupcake Toppers
10 ounce bag Ghirardelli white chocolate melting wafers
green food coloring
sprinkles and star decorations
I used the Ghiradelli melting wafers because they set up pretty quickly without having to place them in the freezer. But of course you could use the melting chocolate but to get them to set up you will have to place them in the freezer for a few minutes.
1. Place pretzel sticks on wax paper.
2. Melt chocolate wafers and if needed color it green with food coloring.
3. Pour melted chocolate into a ziplock back and snip off the corner.
4. Starting at the bottom of the pretzel stick start making your tree using zigzags up to the top ending with a point.
5. The Ghiradelli chocolate sets up pretty fast so you will want to decorate your trees a few at a time.
6. After the chocolate is set just peel the trees off the wax paper and enjoy!
