Christmas Tree Iced Sugar Cookies

Cally and I have been busy in the kitchen the last 2 days!  We were doing our traditional Mother and Daughter Christmas baking.  This sugar cookie is one of my favorites this year. 

I love the squiggly Christmas Tree that Cally has decorated the cookies with.  The balls and star are just so cute!

Bill and Amanda surprised me with an early Christmas present today while we were doing our baking.  They gave me this beautiful Monogrammed Paddle Board. You will for sure be seeing more of it on the blog.... next up will probably be a cheese ball for New Years!



Along with the Iced Sugar Cookie, we also made our traditional cookie press Christmas tree, Peanut Buttercup Peanut Butter Cookie, Peanut Butter Blossom, Sugar Cookie,  Apple Crisp Cookie, Iced Oatmeal Cookie, Molasses Cookie, Copy Cat Trader Joe's Peppermint Pretzels, and Copy Cake Girl Scout Thin Mints.

Cookie making is a special treat for Cally and I.  We love to have cookies to munch on during the holiday.  But come January I am going to have to go back to being good and jump back on the Weight Watchers wagon!

Tomorrow , Nope actual right now is Christmas Eve because it is 12:19 ...... I will be getting things prepared for our Family Dinner on Christmas Day.  Lots of prep to be done, dishes to get out, table to be set up and set.... oh my lots and lots to do..... but I am excited to be able to do this for my family!  I am truly Blessed beyond measure.

Christmas Tree Iced Sugar Cookies

1 cup butter
1 1/4 cups sugar
1 egg
3 teaspoons vanilla
1 teaspoon almond extract
3 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 -1/2 cup sour cream (depending how dry the dough is)

In a large mixing bowl cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.  Add in the egg, vanilla and almond extracts and mix until combined.

In a separate bowl combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.  Slowly add the flour mixture into the butter mixture until completely combined.  Add in 1/4 to 1/2 cup sour cream until dough is nice and soft to be able to roll out.

Roll dough out on a floured surface and cut with cookie cutters.  Place on parchment covered cookie sheets and refrigerate dough for 15 minutes, this will keep the dough from spreading when baked.

Bake at 350 degrees for 8 to 12 minutes.  Cool completely before icing.

We first put a ring around the edges and then flooded the inside with icing.  Next we used purchased Wilton Icing in a bottle to make the squiggly trees, sprinkle with decorations and a star.
